Sony 50mm f/1.8 DT Alpha A-Mount Standard Prime Lens
The 50mm f/1.8 DT Alpha A-Mount Standard Prime Lens from Sony may look like a standard prime lens, but being a lens designed for cropped APS-C sized DT-mount cameras, it is actually a short telephoto lens with the 35mm equivalent of a 75mm focal length. The wide f/1.8 aperture, and seven circular aperture blades, provide excellent out of focus, "bokeh" background effects as well as faster shutter speeds for low-light shooting. Build with Sony's Smooth Autofocus Motor (SAM), the 50mm lens elements are directly controlled by the SAM unit for fast yet smooth AF when you need it most. To reduce chromatic aberrations, Sony also built Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass into the elements, producing sharper images with well defined contrast.
75mm Fixed Lens (35mm Equivalent)
This bright 50mm lens is a normal focal length that is the 35mm equivalent of a 75mm focal length when mounted onto the cropped APS-C sized cameras it is designed for.
Aperture Range: f/1.8-22
The range of available apertures begin at a wide f/1.8 and continue to a narrow f/22.
For DT Alpha & Minolta DSLRs
Designed for APS-C sized sensors, this lens may be used on any Sony Alpha & Minolta DT-mount camera, depending on your needs and current system.
Smooth Autofocus Motor (SAM)
Designed for fast, smooth and silent automatic focusing, Sony's unique Smooth Autofocus Motor (SAM) technology achieves high torque at low speed with rapid start/stop response. The AF control signals from the camera body are sent to the lens-mounted SAM unit, which drives the lens directly, helping to assure quick and accurate AF response.
Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) Glass
To reduce chromatic aberrations, the extra-low dispersion glass corrects for specific wavelengths of light - producing sharper images with truer colors.
7x Circular Aperture Blades
Circular aperture blades produce smooth, rounded "bokeh" background effects when capturing spot-light sources in your pictures. Because the aperture blades form a near circle at the wide openings used for low-light shots, spot-light sources have a pleasing out of focus effect.
